The program is a full-time assignment to the Clinical Electrodiagnostic Medicine Laboratory, where over 12,000 patients are seen each year. The fellowship begins with a formal 2-month didactic program covering all areas of clinical neurophysiology, pathology, and clinical neurophysiological features of disease while learning basic electrodiagnostic methodologies. After completion of basic electrodiagnostic methodologies, the fellow will perform electrodiagnostic studies on adults and children with a wide range of neuromuscular diseases. In addition, there will be experience with special techniques including single fiber EMG; somatosensory, visual, and auditory evoked responses; and intraoperative monitoring. If desired, experience in the quantitative sensory, autonomic, and movement disorder laboratories will be available. One-half day each week the fellow will see neuromuscular specialty consultations under the supervision of neuromuscular staff physicians. The fellow is encouraged to pursue one or more research projects during the year. The program is designed to exceed the requirements for electrodiagnostic training as defined by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. The program is accredited and meets eligibility requirements for added qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology certification by the American Academy of Neurology.
