The Division of Clinical Neurophysiology serves the University of Vermont’s college of Medicine and Fletcher Allen Health Care, the major tertiary medical center of Vermont and upstate New York. We perform and interpret nearly 4,000 examinations including EEG/EP, EMG/NC, single fiber EMG, motor unit number estimation, polysomnography, intraoperative monitoring, ambulatory EEG monitoring, inpatient video-EEG monitoring, autonomic testing, quantitative sensory testing, and transcranial magnetic stimulation. The emphasis of this fellowship is epilepsy and central neurophysiology. The fellow attends a weekly epilepsy clinic as well as providing inpatient consultation. Description:

The Neuromuscular Fellowship in the UVM Department of Neurology is a one year, renewable program of clinical and research training. The strength of the program is the breadth of the clinical, electrophysiological and pathological experience, covering skeletal muscle, neuromuscular junction peripheral nerve and motor neuron disorders. The Fellow is responsible to Dr. Rup Tandan, Director of the Neuromuscular Service, for running the Neuromuscular Consultation Service in FAHC, and for taking part in the weekly Neuromuscular Disorders Clinic. In addition, the Fellow is expected to participate in the two weekly continuous series of Neuromuscular Conferences and Journal Clubs, and the weekly Neuromuscular Ward Rounds. Weekly muscle and nerve pathology sessions are held jointly under the direction of Dr. William Pendlebury, Chief of the Neuropathology Service. These sessions cover ongoing training in the pathological diagnosis and investigation of patients with neuromuscular diseases. The Fellow will rotate through the peripheral electrophysiology laboratory under the direction of Dr. Timothy Fries to gain experience in the electrophysiological investigation of patients with neuromuscular diseases. Active participation in a number of neuromuscular research programs in the Department of Neurology forms an important part of the training in this fellowship. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited training program in neurology in the U.S. or Canada and must be licensed or eligible for licensure by Vermont. Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, along with a completed application form to Penny Potvin, University of Vermont College of Medicine, 89 Beaumont Ave, Given C225c, Burlington, VT 05405.
