AANEM membership is open to patient care collaborators who are nonphysician providers who work in collaboration with a neurologist or physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) physician to treat patients with neuromuscular diseases. Collaborators do not perform or interpret needle electromyography (EMG) studies or interpret nerve conduction studies (NCSs) but are active in the field of neuromuscular medicine.

Collaborator members can be business administrators managing academic or private neurology or PMR practices, supervisors who no longer perform electrodiagnostic studies, or those with special training in the healthcare field such as nurses, physicians assistants, or pharmacists.
