Advancing Neuromuscular, Musculoskeletal, & Electrodiagnostic Medicine

Advocacy/Regulations

The AANEM legislative policy, payer relations, and coding staff monitor and advocate on issues that affect the practice of neuromuscular and electrodiagnostic medicine, ensuring patients receive quality care and members receive appropriate reimbursement.

The AANEM Advocates for:
  • Quality:  It is essential that quality electrodiagnostic studies are performed to ensure that an accurate diagnosis is reached. Providers who lack training as an electrodiagnostic physician may miss important, but subtle, signs that distinguish one disease from another.
  • Safety: The results of electrodiagnostic studies determine treatment and surgical decisions.  When a patient receives a poor study and is misdiagnosed, it also may result in unnecessary surgery.
  • Cost: The greatest drain on healthcare resources are unnecessary tests, treatment, and surgery. It is critical that only necessary tests are performed and the right diagnosis reached.
  • Access:  Ensure new treatments and therapies are recognized by payers and available to patients.
AANEM strives to keep members up-to-date on issues and actions by state governments.
