Advancing Neuromuscular, Musculoskeletal, & Electrodiagnostic Medicine

Scope of Practice

AANEM advocates at the federal, state and regulatory level to promote policies that will help physicians accurately diagnose and care for patients with muscle and nerve disorders.  The association also educates and advises policy makers on diagnostic tools utilized by AANEM members including ultrasound and muscle and skin biopsy.

AANEM works to define who is qualified to perform electrodiagnostic studies. Those who are not qualified
can administer inaccurate diagnoses and can delay appropriate patient care which may result in unnecessary
treatment.

Help us help you! When the call goes out, alert your elected officials on the need to define who is qualified to perform electrodiagnostic studies. Contact your local Board of Medicine when you become aware of poor studies. They cannot make changes to ensure quality studies are performed in your state without first becoming aware that the issue exists.  If other issues arise in your state that affect your neuromuscular or electrodiagnostic practice, contact the AANEM policy department.
